Joe started his piano training at age 7 with Judy Sun and John Argyle on the Gold Coast. During his school years, he completed his AMEB AmusA and competed in various local competitions including winning first prize in the Queensland Piano Competition. Although he considered a career in piano performance, he ended up pursuing tertiary education in mechanical and aerospace engineering and established a career at Airbus, working within an engineering team to develop and deliver design solutions which are critical to the progress and support of Airbus Australia Pacific’s aircraft to the Australian Defence Force.
At the end of 2020, after a decade away from playing piano, Joe rediscovered his love of piano and decided to restart his piano studies with Roger Longjie Cui whilst continuing to work full-time. Aside from piano playing, Joe is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hiking, kayaking, rock climbing as well as gym and boxing. In his spare time, he also volunteers in organising hiking and kayaking events.
