Tianyi (Elton) Sun was born in Shanghai on 10th February, 2010 and has been studying piano since he was 5 years old. He loves music and loves to perform. Since arriving in Melbourne, Australia with his family in 2017, he has participated in numerous competitions and won several awards including first place in the 2022 Des Stevenson Award from the Musical Society of Victoria (12 years and under), first place in the 2022 Ringwood Eisteddfod Piano Competition (Open section) and second place in the Boroondara Eisteddfod Piano Concerto Award (Open section) in 2023, performing also with orchestra.

Tianyi is now 14 years old and is in year 8 at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School where he is continuing piano studies with Betty Vergara-Pink. At the conclusion of year 7 at VCASS, Tianyi was awarded a Phyllis McDonald Piano Scholarship, a scholarship awarded annually to a pianist who has demonstrated outstanding commitment and achievement in their piano studies. 

His other interests and hobbies are very extensive. He has been studying cello since the age of 9, and he also loves mathematics, tennis, Rubik's Cube, and chess. His current wish is to visit the European countries where his favourite composers have lived.
