LIPOHAR, Reuben
Reuben Lipohar, 18, commenced piano lessons at the age of four. He has played in numerous concerts as a solo artist and with other young musicians. In 1998 he accepted a music scholarship to Carey Baptist Grammar School. He appeared as a guest artist giving a full recital at a music teachers’ convention in the USA. In 2000, Reuben accepted a full music scholarship at Melbourne Grammar School. He gained his AMusA at the age of 11, and his LMusA at 12, being the only musician in Victoria to gain the award with distinction in that year. He has won many competitions including the 2004 Preston Symphony Orchestra open age concerto competition and the state division of the Yamaha Youth Piano Competition, and was a national finalist. Reuben appeared as a soloist at the Royal Academy of Music playing Rachmaninov’s 2nd piano concerto with the MGS orchestra, and toured as a soloist in New Zealand, performing Liszt’s 2nd piano concerto. Recently he toured China and Hong Kong as soloist with the MGS orchestra performing Liszt’s Totentanz. Reuben was selected for the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Music extension program and received a full score in VCE (Year 12) solo and group performance. He has an endorsement from the Anglo Suisse Artistic Foundation. Reuben was an ANAM Young Musician in 2005 and 2006, and this year is an Academy Musician.
