FARID, Amir
Winner of the 2006 Australian National Piano Award, Amir Farid, 26, completed studies at the University of Melbourne with Professor Ronald Farren Price and at the Australian National Academy of Music with Rita Reichman, Timothy Young and Geoffrey Tozer. Other wins include the 2005 Hephzibah Menuhin and 3MBS Performer of the Year awards, the Pianist’s Prize at the 2006 Mietta Song Recital Award, the Piano Trio prize at the 2005 Australian Chamber Music Competition (as part of the Benaud Trio), and the 2003 Dandenong Eisteddfod's three major sections, and the Gold Medallion. In 2006, Amir recorded Mozart’s Concerto no. 23 as soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

The 4 finalists of the 2007 competition are, in order of play:

Denny LIU
Roger CUI
Lo-An LIN

The Finalists will compete for $20,000 First Prize, plus a $5,000 People's Choice Prize, which is voted by the audience on the Final night. The First Prize winner also receives a number of performance prizes in Australia and overseas.

Each finalist will play a concerto with The Queensland Orchestra, conducted by Marco Zuccarini, on Saturday 25 August at 6:30 pm at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, Grey Street, Southbank, Brisbane.

Also announced on the Final night are the minor prizes, from performances in the preliminary rounds.
