2009 Finalists Announced

The 4 finalists of the 2009 competition are, in order of play:

Oliver She (Rachmaninov, Concerto No. 3)
James Guan (Grieg, Concerto in A minor)
Jason Bae (Rachmaninov, Concerto No. 2)
Adam Herd (Ravel, Concerto in G major)

The Finalists will compete for the $20,000 First Prize, plus a $5,000 People's Choice Prize, which is voted by the audience on the Final night. The First Prize winner also receives a number of performance prizes.

Each finalist will play a concerto with The Queensland Orchestra, conducted by Marco Zuccarini, on Friday 28 August at 6:30 pm in the Concert Hall, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Southbank, Brisbane.

Also announced on the Final night are the minor prizes, from performances in the preliminary rounds.

  • Encouragement Award $1,000
  • Best Performance of an Australian Work $1,000
  • Best Performance of a Prelude and Fugue $1,000
  • Best Performance of a Virtuoso Study $1,000
  • Best Performance of a Classical Sonata $1,000
  • Enid Lane Memorial Prize for Mozart $1,000

Where are they now?

Second Prize winner in 2005, and Fourth Prize winner in 2003, Ke Lin has gone onto become a major prize-winner in every major piano competition in Australia.  In 2006, Ke performed at the Port Fairy Festival, Piano Landmarks concert series, and gave the opening gala recital for the Tyalgum Festival.
