![]() Born in Melbourne, Australia, former child prodigy Rita Reichman made her first public appearance at three, playing Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata on Australian television. After beginning her studies with her mother, she began studying at 4 with Jascha Spivakovsky in Melbourne. She studied composition with Felix Werder and published a book of compositions for piano before she left for further studies in the USA at age 9. At 10 she made her American debut with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and at 13 with the Philadelphia Orchestra. At 10 she was also accepted to study at the famed Curtis Institute of Music with legendary masters, Rudolph Serkin and Mieczyslaw Horszowski, whose teachers had studied with students of Beethoven and Chopin. She completed her Bachelor's degree from Curtis at 17 and her Master's Degree at the Julliard School in New York at 21. Rita has performed with many of the world’s leading conductors and in recital in France, Italy, America, Poland, Sweden, Austria, Canada, Israel, South Africa, Belgium, China and Australia. She has performed in the White House for the President of the USA. She has also performed for the president of Brazil and for Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Miss Reichman is in the midst of recording a series of concerti with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, having completed the Ravel and Saint Saens G minor, and has recorded an all Chopin solo CD. She was appointed Head of Piano at the Australian National Academy of Music in 2002 where she passed on the benefits of her unique education and experience to some of Australia’s top students. Her students have won most of Australia’s top prizes as well as international awards, and some have achieved international careers.
