Joaquin Soriano plays in recitals in Europe, Asia and USA. He began his studies with Magenti and later with Perlemuter, Heuclin and Brendel. After having won the first prize at the Vercelli competition in 1965, at Naples, at Casella and at Pozzoli, he participated in the Chopin competition in Warsaw. Joaquin Soriano has held recitals with the Nacional de Espana, Sinfonica de Radio-Television Espanola, National of France, RAI, Hallè in Manchester, the Royal Philharmonic, the London Symphony, the Gurzenich in Cologne, Dallas, with the New York Chamber, the Chamber of Lausanne, Buenos Aires, the Sinfonica Brasileira, the state of Mexico and the English Chamber (with whom he recorded a CD dedicated to Falla and Turina). He played with the Israel Sinfonica at Tel Aviv and at the Festival at Granada. He has performed in the USA, Japan, the former Soviet Union, Australia and Israel. He has given solo performances for the BBC and for the main radio and TV stations in Europe and the United States. Joaquin Soriano teaches at the Mendez Pelayo University of Santander, at Tokyo, at the Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music and at the Conservatoire at Madrid. Additionally, he has been a member of the jury of several piano competitions including the Iturbi, Santander, Tschaikowsky in Moscow, Rubinstein, London, Leeds, van Cliburn, Marguerite Long in Paris, Dublin etc. His discography includes the Soirées de Vienne of Schubert/Liszt, pieces of Iberia of Albéniz, Falla, Turina, Monpou, Chopin, Schumann, Rachmaninov, Vines’ Homenajes, the Trios of Turina, the Trio of Madrid, Mozart chamber concerts and a CD with the English Chamber. Joaquin Soriano is an academician at the San Fernando of Madrid and member of the Istituto d’Espana. He has been granted the gold medal of the Fine Arts. |
